Xbox One Achievements Due to Change in Significant Ways

Microsoft may not have invented the concept of in-game achievements, but they did popularize the idea of almost every game featuring achievements as part of a universal system.

Mike Ybarra, Corporate VP of Xbox, recently hosted a podcast from Windows Central.

Microsoft has announced that the "Xbox Live Creators Program" is now open to everyone. For now, Microsoft is keeping the Alpha ring as an invite-only affair, so once you're in the Beta or Delta rings, you'll need to keep testing updates and games, hoping that Microsoft notices the work that you're putting in.

Xbox One and Windows 10 have launched a new section of indie games that aren't curated by Microsoft. For $600 you can buy both consoles and two games, and for $500 you can buy an Xbox One X and no games and if you want to buy two games at least another 100 bucks so the value proposition is ONE CONSOLE TWO GAMES or TWO CONSOLE TWO GAMES.

Ybarra did not go into specifics, but it seems like the general idea is to reward quality of achievements just as much as the current system rewards quantity.

"(We're) going to go big in the area of letting people show off and represent their gaming history and the type of gamer that they are, far more than we do with GamerScore", he explained.

"This person doesn't play a lot of games, but they're world top ten at Halo 5", he continued.

Invite-only access ring reserved for Xbox Insiders that provide the most customer feedback, report problems with clear repro steps, and are especially active on Xbox One consoles.

Unfortunately, games made in the Creators Program won't be able to use Achievements, Gamerscore, or internet multiplayer, although they can access the full range of social features available through Xbox Live. You can play brand new games, watch Netflix or HBO and any other streaming app on your Xbox One. Games play better on Xbox One X. It's the first time we've engineered a system around today's cutting-edge engines and the blockbuster titles you already love. Let us know in the comments.
