Moscow bomb threats spark mass evacuation of 45000 people after train stations, universities and shopping malls are

Around 30 sites are being cleared including universities, shopping centres, and train stations.

The Moscow State Medical University was also evacuated, according to reports.

"Twenty sites are now being evacuated, and more than 10,000 people have been escorted out, though the specific number is still being confirmed", TASS news agency reported.

First was during Moscow theater hostage crisis which claimed the lives of 170 people.

Over 45,000 people have been evacuated from more than 200 facilities in 29 Russian cities after a wave of anonymous bomb threat calls over the past three days, amid speculation of either foreign interference or a domestic anti-terror drill.

The sites evacuated include the huge GUM shopping centre, next to Red Square, as well as three universities and three railway stations.

An emergency services source told RT "This appears to be a case of telephone terrorism, but we have to check the credibility of these messages".

"The only goal is to set off destructive processes, to sow panic".

The threats in Saratov region were made anonymously through internet voice calls, the Federal Security Service's (FSB) regional branch said Wednesday.

The Interior Ministry and Security Council declined to comment. Social media accounts show bemused crowds milling passively outside evacuated buildings, and there have been no reports of disturbances of public order. Klintsevich and other officials said the source could have been Ukraine.
