Florida Governor Rick Scott is facing backlash after his office revealed it deleted four voicemail messages from the nursing home where 11 people died in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma

The nursing home reported it lost power and air conditioning when the storm struck on September 10, calling an emergency hotline the next day. Their deaths were added to eight who were found dead last week at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills or who died after being evacuated to a hospital.

An eleventh resident of a Hollywood nursing home that had to be evacuated after a power outage has died, the medical examiner's office confirmed Friday. One transformer handles life and safety systems while the second supports the air conditioning system.

FPL declined to comment on the alleged call, but said in a statement that "a portion of the facility did, in fact, have power (and) there was a hospital with power across the parking lot from this facility and that the nursing home was required to have a permanently installed, operational generator".

Florida Power and Light reported that all but 300 customers remain without power in Lee County, while Collier, which took the brunt of the storm, has 240 customers in the dark.

Scott said at no time did anyone from the nursing home suggest there was a crisis or that patients were in danger.

The power for the air conditioning unit at The Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills was lost on September 10 around 3pm. The governor's office said the home should have called 911 or evacuated patients across the street to save lives
Law enforcement, first responders awarded license-free fishing

Crews will continue to fix those areas, she said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will accept official first responder identification in lieu of a state fishing license during this period.

By the evening of September 11, after repeated calls to FPL, Anderson, the nursing home officials, dialed the cellphone number provided by Scott.

Between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Wednesday September 13, patients at the nursing suffered myriad health issues and during that time at least five of the patients died. The home has filed a lawsuit trying to overturn the state's actions.
