Watchdog: Nuclear Warheads Still Building Up in 4 Countries

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute says developments in North Korea's nuclear program "contributed to international political instability with potentially serious knock-on effects".

A nuclear launch by North Korea would come dangerously close to an act of war, said Lee Choon Geun, a missile expert from South Korea's Science and Technology Policy Institute.

South Korea calls North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's direct rebuke of President Donald Trump a "reckless provocation" that would deepen his country's worldwide isolation and lead to its demise.

Previous quakes from North Korea have indicated nuclear tests by the state, the most recent earlier this month.

In a statement on Friday, Kim responded by calling the USA head of state "mentally deranged" and a "dotard" who would "pay dearly" for his comments - triggering Trump to describe him as a "madman".

Donald Trump later used his speech to the UN General Assembly to tell the world he would "totally destroy" North Korea if the United States of America was threatened by its regime.

According to Reuters, Fiji, along with Interpol and the Singapore-based regional shipping regulator Tokyo MOU, are investigating the vessels for links to North Korea. The Security Council resolution also bans all North Korea textile exports, worth an average of $760 million over the past three years. Kim, in an extraordinary and direct rebuke, called Trump "deranged" and said he will "pay dearly" for his threats, a possible indication of more powerful weapons tests on the horizon.

The U.S. put its own sanctions on North Korea on Thursday, against banks or companies doing business with the country.

On Friday, US President Donald Trump praised China for increasing financial restrictions, and has been pushing Beijing to apply more pressure to North Korea over it nuclear programme.

The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji says in Fiji's case, the North Korean-linked ships had adopted our flag without formally registering.

He said Mr Trump had insulted his country in the eyes of the world, and threatened to "surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged United States dotard with fire".

In response to a question on how Pyongyang might hit back after the new sanctions, Mnuchin said, "I'm not going to comment on what I expect North Korea to do". The statement, carried by North's official Korean Central News Agency, responds to Trump's combative speech at the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
