Kerala Priest Father Tom Uzhunnalil was allegedly abducted by the ISIS from Yemen in 2016

Father Uzhunnalil, who has been brought to Muscat, will reportedly fly down to his hometown of Kerala later today.

Tom Uzhunnalil was abducted during a terrorist raid on a Missionaries of Charity-run old age home in Aden in Yemen.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed the news on micro-blogging site twitter.

"I am happy to inform that Father Tom Uzhunnalil has been rescued", the minister tweeted.

Media reports said that the priest, who is now in Muscat, will be flown to Kerala tonight.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday confirmed the release of Tom Uzhunnalil, a Kerala priest abducted a year ago by a terror group in war-torn Yemen. "My health condition is deteriorating quickly and I require hospitalisation as early as possible". "He also thanked his brothers and sisters and all relatives and friends who called on God for safety and release". At least 15 people had died in the attack.

In a video released on December 27, 2016, the priest had appealed Indian government and the church to intervene. In the wake of reports of the priest's release, Congress MP K.C.Venugopal urged government should take measures to fly him home in good health.

Earlier, Swaraj had told parliament that all efforts would be made to secure Father Tom's release.
