Army National Guard Soldiers from Florida, South Carolina, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are now on state active duty status and are either responding, or prepared to respond to each governor's priorities, the Army said.

In addition, airmen from the 105th Airlift Wing, based in Newburgh, deployed a satellite communications team of seven members, using a wing C-17 aircraft, on Sunday to MS as part of the Hurricane Irma response and support to the Florida National Guard.

"Many of our volunteers will ride out the storms in shelters and then go into the affected neighborhoods to assist people", Concannon said.

"Our mission is to help the people of Florida in any way that we can", Col. John Oakley, commander of the Red Arrow brigade, said.

"The National Guard stands trained and prepared to assist authorities protect lives and property", said Maj. Naval Station Mayport near Jacksonville, Florida, and other military installations across the state were shut down until the storm passes.

He says this is the first time in more than 30 years in military service that he has been deployed domestically.

"Wisconsin is ready to assist in any way necessary, and National Guardsmen from the Badger State will remain in the region as long as needed", Dunbar added. "Gen. Michael Calhoun in this response".

Also, airmen from the 105th Airlift Wing based in Newburgh deployed a seven-person team as part of a satellite communications unit to MS to help with the hurricane response, and a rescue plane based on Long Island was sent to help transport personnel from the Kentucky Air National Guard to Florida.

Wisconsin units join units from around the country as part of a nationwide task force serving under the command and control of Florida's adjutant general.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb mobilized Indianapolis' 38th Infantry Division and Terre Haute's 181st Intelligence Wing over the weekend.

The Alaska Guard units and others from across the nation have joined to support the Texas National Guard, which has been aggressive, using both their organic Guard capabilities and Department of Defense capabilities, all in support of Texas Governor Greg Abbott's response effort.
