Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing strengthen partnership

As part of the new deal, an advanced performance centre will be built on the site of the current Formula 1 factory in Milton Keynes, which will house their joint venture supercar projects, and will create hundreds of jobs, as well as allowing a closer collaboration between the F1 and road vehicle teams.

Andy Palmer, Aston Martin president and CEO, said: "Title partnership is the next logical step for our Innovation Partnership with Red Bull Racing".

However, the magazine says Renault "has chose to end its relationship with Red Bull", leaving the door open for Aston Martin to become more involved with the four-time champions.

Red Bull and Aston Martin, the glamorous 104-year-old marque whose road cars have become associated with fictional British secret agent James Bond, have an existing technical relationship.

The forging of closer links will also see the creation of the Advanced Performance Centre, which will be a design centre for future sports cars and will create 110 jobs.

Red Bull drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen also drove Aston Martin cars as they towed caravans riotously around the Red Bull Ring in Austria earlier this year.

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner said the deal would only strengthen what is an already successful partnership.

Aston Martin is set to increase its involvement with the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team by becoming the four-time world champion's title sponsor for the 2018 season.

Interestingly, Aston Martin this week confirmed the Valkyrie is "the first in a line of incredible products to be borne of this innovation partnership" with Red Bull. Watch this space for more low-volume hypercars, then.

The British brand will now be Red Bull's title sponsor, taking over from Infiniti, which, as part of the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi family, will cut ties with the team at the end of this year - a year before Renault itself stops supplying Red Bull with engines.

Yes, Third Base is an Aston engine, but the new power unit regulations for F1 are not yet set, and this deal could be seen as a clear sign to F1 bosses that they need to get that right if they really want more vehicle brands on the grid.

"Our Innovation Partnership with Aston Martin has been a pioneering project from day one".

The sport's engine regulations are changing after 2020, with calls for a simpler and cheaper power unit than the current 1.6 litre V6 turbo hybrid and that could be of interest to Aston Martin.
