USA prosecutors will decide in the next few months whether to charge a police officer who killed Australian woman Justine Damond in Minnesota in July. Damond, an Australian native who was engaged to be married last month, was shot as she approached the squad vehicle.

A decision is expected by the end of the year.

Harrity claimed Noor fired his weapon after being "startled" by a loud noise.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension announced Tuesday that its investigation into the shooting death of Justine Damond at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer is complete.

"The BCA has concluded its investigation, but the wait continues for Justine's family and me", he said.

'They certainly believe charges are merited, ' he said in a telephone interview.

He said the family hopes Freeman 'will act swiftly to review the findings and determine charges'.

Freeman said Sunday the fatal shooting did not have to happen during a forum with neighborhood residents, according to the Star Tribune.

Minnesota Police Department Officer Noor has refused to answer investigators' questions over what happened the night Justine Damond was killed.

The fallout from the shooting also led to the ouster of Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau, who'd been out of town at the time of the shooting and was criticized for not returning quickly enough.

In another high-profile police shooting, Freeman decided that no charges would be filed against two officers involved in the November 2015 death of Jamar Clark.

Mr Damond released a statement, urging Mr Freeman to make a quick decision.

Freeman said Tuesday that his office would remain in contact with state investigators as it reviews the Damond case and may ask them to do additional work.

THE investigation into Justine Damond's killing by Minneapolis cop Mohamed Noor has cleared its first stage.

Her family's attorney has reiterated their desire to see him charged.
