Bears place linebacker Jerrell Freeman on injured reserve

Freeman suffered a concussion and a pectoral injury during the Bears' season opener against the Falcons last Sunday.

"We'll evaluate moving forward whether he can return or not", Fox said Monday. In his attempt to make a comeback a year ago, he appeared in just four games before being ruled out the rest of the season with a spiral fracture in his left fibula and ankle ligament damage that required yet another surgery. He missed four games after violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

An NFL source told the Tribune on Tuesday that the Bears are promoting inside linebacker Jonathan Anderson from the practice squad, a move that would not be made this early in the week if Freeman were potentially going to be in action.

Nick Kwiatkoski will likely take the place of Freeman in the starting lineup against the Buccaneers. "He was pretty upset about it last night and they're doing evaluations right now", Bears head coach John Fox said on Monday, via the team's official website.

Hours later, the Bears announced that White has been diagnosed with a fractured scapula and he has been placed on the injured reserve list for the third year in a row.

Their promotions to the 53-man roster opened up two spots on the practice squad, which Pace filled with two more players at the skill positions. Gentry - a graduate of Aurora's Grandview High School - has been signed to Chicago's active roster from the practice squad for Week 2 of the National Football League season.
