Boxing Preview - Fury v Parker

Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury

Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury

Peter Fury, father and trainer of British fighter Hughie, has claimed that Joseph Parker's trainer Kevin Barry told him that the judges were insane, after the Kiwi fighter claimed a controversial victory in Manchester.

The WBO Heavyweight World Championship bout is promoted by Duco Events and Hennessy Sports.

"There's a lot to take from this fight, just got to keep working on things that I showed weakness in the ring today, but we did a lot of things good", Parker said.

But Fury claimed he felt like a new man after putting his problems behind him, and his footwork, along with his flicking jab, gave Parker problems early on.

Mandatory challenger Fury, 23 last Monday, suffered his professional first defeat in 21 fights while a second title defence for Parker improved his undefeated record to 24 wins, 18 by KO.

"So I thought it might have got taken away from us, but I was confident I did the work in the ring".

Fury landed his own shots before the round was over though before the Kiwi hit back with another right.

Parker, meanwhile, attempted to walk Fury down before landing with his powerful right hand, but he often missed wildly.

That right hand rocked Fury in the final round to remove any doubt about who the worthy victor of this was.

Fury was embraced by his cousin at the final bell after Tyson climbed over the top rope to celebrate with a joyous home corner.

'I caught him with the harder punches, and feel I won the fight fairly.

Defending champion Parker is taking on his fifth fight outside of New Zealand, and he intends to base himself in the United Kingdom going forward - but he knows the fans at a sold out 21,000 capacity Manchester Arena will be backing thee local boy.

"We knew that Joe had won the fight but we also knew we were in Manchester".

"Parker should have cornered him and battered him and finished it early, but it didn't happen".
