The Chargers are relatively healthy - at least for now - and that gives them the edge in a tough, season-opening divisional game. The game has a scheduled start time of 10.20 p.m. ET and takes place from Sports Authority Field in Denver, Colorado. They've revamped the offensive line, two great running backs, the tight end (Hunter) Henry has come along and Antonio Gates has always been good. Few games between these teams will match the season opener in 1994, the season the Chargers went to their lone Super Bowl.

Fans around the country can view this game on ESPN, as this will be the second game of ESPN's Monday Night Football programming. With injuries all along their defensive line, the Broncos stop the Melvin Gordon-led running game of the Chargers? They had a 1-8 record in one-score games - including a road loss to the Browns, who did not manage to beat anyone else all year.

In addition, Vance Joseph of the Broncos and Anthony Lynn of the Chargers are making their head coaching debuts in a game that marks the first time two African American head coaches have faced each other in their inaugural game. The Broncos feature four new starters on the offensive line, including rookie left tackle Garrett Bolles and right tackle Menelik Watson, and the unit could have its hands full against Chargers dynamic pass rushers Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram.

Mike McCoy has been been on both sides of this rivalry, a rivalry that's been a bit one-sided lately with Denver winning six of the last seven. He won't face a deeper group of defensive backs all season, though. He did that and more, being around the ball for most of the preseason games.

After installing his plan in the spring and sharpening it during organized team activities in June, the offense began to hit its stride as the temperature rose during the second and third weeks of training camp. A safety and cornerback, King finished preseason with two sacks, an interception and a forced fumble, all the while showing his versatility. Both teams are looking for successful seasons so they can make their way back to the playoffs.

The NFL season is ready for action on this Sunday and the Denver Broncos have three players ready to shake off the 2016 downer. The Chargers need to limit turnovers and keep Denver's defense out of the end zone.

San Diego QB Philip Rivers needs 401 passing yards to move ahead of Vinny Testaverde for 11th place on the National Football League all-time list.

It's impossible to know how first-time head coaches such as Anthony Lynn and Joseph are going to handle their first test.

Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas has topped 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past five seasons.

Still elite: The Broncos' defensive players have nearly been offended in recent weeks that conventional wisdom around the league doesn't often put them among the NFL's elite groups.

The disappointment the Chargers endured last season probably paled in comparison to that of the Broncos.
