Defying US Warnings Iran Successfully Tests New Missile

"Not much of an agreement we have!" the President added in his tweet, apparently alluding to the agreement signed in 2015 between Tehran and six worldwide powers, including the U.S., on Iran's nuclear programme. The missile has a range of 2000 km (1242 miles) and can carry a warhead to a range of 1800 km (1118 miles).

"On the path to improve our country's defensive capacity we will certainly not be the least affected by any threats and we won't ask anyone's permission", he said, according to Reuters.

Iran announced Saturday that it has successfully tested a new medium-range ballistic missile capable of striking targets up to 1,200 miles away, defying USA calls to halt further testing.

"We will strengthen not only our missiles but also our air, land and sea forces..."

Iran and North Korea are also actively coordinating on nuclear development and sharing technology. If he decides that it is not, that could open the way for United States lawmakers to reimpose sanctions, leading to the potential collapse of the agreement. The agency did not provide further information.

Criticism by the Trump administration of the 2015 nuclear deal has focused heavily on Tehran's continuing missile program.

Earlier this week, Trump had urged the worldwide community not to let the Iranian regime to continue destabilizing activities as it builds "dangerous missiles".

But Iran is working hard to test the limits of America's patience.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said tensions on the Korean peninsula underlined the importance of the Iranian deal, and that China would continue to support it.

He is due to report to Congress on October 15 on whether Iran is still complying with the deal and whether it remains in U.S. interests to stick by it.

Tehran says that the missiles are entirely legitimate under the terms of the deal as they are not created to carry a nuclear warhead.

On Wednesday, Trump told reporters that he had made a decision about whether or not to pull out of the nuclear deal, but declined to say what it was.

The United States extended sanctions relief for Iran last week as part of the agreement, which President Donald Trump has described as "the worst deal ever".
