Townsend and his team were called to the beach mid morning on Monday and moved the shark to the pool to check its well-being, before relocating it to the aquarium overnight.

This great white shark didn't end up in a Sydney, Australia, public swimming pool by accident, it was put there on goal.

The two-metre shark, nicknamed "Fluffy", made global headlines after he was found thrashing around on the shore of Manly Beach on Monday.

Rob Daly told 7 News Online that he was just nipping out for coffee when he spotted the shark, initially thinking it was a stingray.

The shark was lifted into a auto, transferred into a sling then taken to the nearby Fairy Bower Pool.

"He's had a chance to rest up, a chance to recoup, and hopefully we will be able to release him a bit later today", he said.

Despite this, onlookers continued to gather along the sides of the pool, taking photos and videos of the shark exploring its temporary home.

"These great white sharks usually are animals that would tend to be offshore a bit, out in the deeper more unrestricted waters, ' he said".

It was later taken to an aquarium and nicknamed "Fluffy" by staff, who plan to release it back into the sea.

Why the juvenile animal ended up repeatedly beaching itself on the sand is "still a mystery and our major concern". (Via Donna Holland) Beachgoers were stunned when the shark washed up on Manly Beach yesterday afternoon. "That is where we were able to step in and sort of intervene". Lovely to see such a gorgeous animal, ' one wrote on Twitter.
