No move by extra-regional powers can be effective, the top Pakistani diplomat said, adding that his country believed in the battle against terrorism to restore peace, security and stability across the region.

While announcing the new strategy, Trump accused Pakistan of providing a "safe haven to agents of chaos, violence and terror" and said the U.S. can no longer tolerate it.

Khawaja Asif met the ruling authorities and members of the foreign office of China just yesterday so the Pakistani minister is on a trip that particularly focuses the regional tour. We see a clear distinction in the dynamics of power relations now where India, America, and Saudi Arabia have a bloc which is opposed by China, Iran, Turkey, and Russian Federation.

"They agreed that there was no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan and a politically negotiated settlement was imperative for lasting peace in Afghanistan".

The Iranian foreign minister reaffirmed Iran's commitment to deepening relations with Pakistan in diverse fields including in trade, investment, connectivity as well as border management.

The Foreign Office also said that both ministers shared deep concern over alleged "human rights violations" in Kashmir.

The spokesperson said matters of mutual interests and regional situation and law and order situation in Afghanistan will come under discussion during the meetings.

National Security Adviser Nasser Janjua and Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua were also present in the meeting.

The foreign minister visited China last Friday and managed to win crucial support from Beijing, which urged the world to recognise Pakistan's sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

Asif will head to Iran's holy city of Mashhad later in the day to visit the shrine of Imam Reza (Peace Be Upon Him), the eighth Imam of Shia Muslims, and meet local officials, the news agency reported.

General John Nicholson, the top United States military commander in Afghanistan, said later that Washington was "aware of the presence" of Taliban leaders in the Pakistani cities of Quetta and Peshawar.

"No need to say that the approach taken by the Americans which is a military one, has not been able to bring peace to Afghanistan 16 years", he said.
