It's been transformed into a skeletal formula, a series of hexagons with single and double bond lines between them, commonly used to represent carbon and hydrogen atoms in organic chemistry.

Dr. Chatterjee's achievements led to her receiving the prestigious Padma BhushanWhat is a Google Doodle? She earned her undergraduate degree from Scottish Church College, and later her master's and doctorate of science from University of Calcutta, all in chemistry. Her focus was mostly on alkaloid, coumarins, and terpenoids.

The post further read, "Dr Chatterjee's groundbreaking contributions to medicine were recognised by universities all over the world".

Additionally, she had research experience from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and Caltech.

Chatterjee was born on September 23, 1917, in Calcutta, then in British India.

She has also authored a significant volume of papers on medicinal plants of the Indian subcontinent.

"In 1940, she returned to the university as the founding head of the department of chemistry at Lady Brabourne College and in 1944, and she became only the second woman to be conferred a Doctorate of Science by an Indian university based on her research on the chemistry of plant products and synthetic organic chemistry".

In 1972, Asima was appointed the Honorary Coordinator of the Special Assistance Programme to intensify teaching and research in natural product chemistry, sanctioned by the University Grants Commission (India).
