Holly Bobo case: Star witness testimony in dispute as case heads to jury

The man accused of kidnapping, raping and killing a Tennessee nursing student has been found guilty of murder and aggravated rape in the 2011 slaying of Holly Bobo.

Just after 3:30 p.m. on the second day of deliberation in the murder trial accusing Zach Adams of Holly Bobo's murder, the jury reentered the courtroom to ask Judge Creed McGinley a question regarding the case.

"I'm not sure you can get an unbiased jury" in a case that has received so much attention in the area, Thompson said.

Holly Bobo originally went missing from her Parsons home on April 13, 2011. Her remains were found 3 years later.

The jury has deliberated about 10 hours since Thursday afternoon.

Bobo's brother Clint testified that he saw an unidentified man wearing camouflage leading his sister into woods behind the family's home.

On Friday, a jury returned a guilty verdict against Zach Adams for Bobo's murder. She said Autry was too street smart to allow himself to be manipulated into helping Adams dispose of Bobo's body even though he says he wasn't involved in the rape, abduction or murder. Wrapped in a farm blanket, Holly's body was unloaded from the back of a pickup truck, the plan, Autry says, was to gut her body so she wouldn't float.

His brother, John Dylan Adams, is also charged and is awaiting his first trial.

Prosecutor Paul Hagerman declined comment.

Adams is charged with first-degree murder, especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape.

But Thompson maintains, "The whole case was based on what people said".

Hagerman also brought up an important fact during his closing arguments - two fellow inmates said Adams told them he was not anxious because authorities didn't have a gun.

Rickey Alexander, a Bobo family friend, said the verdict was "6 1/2 years in the making". His attorneys argued there was no physical evidence Bobo had been inside his home and said the prosecution's case was weak because it depended on Autry's testimony which hinged on him receiving immunity.

In his closing argument, Hagerman said it was Austin who walked with Bobo into the woods. Austin was found dead in a Florida hotel room in what police said was an apparent suicide in February 2015.

Bobo's father was seen putting his arm around his wife during Hagerman's closing statement Thursday.

The jury found Adams guilty on all eight counts against him. Walker said Britt told him "sounds like you have it all figured out" and that he would "plead to it". He said he testified because he wanted leniency.

"With one shot that echoed under that bridge, those two men did what the chose to do and the secret of what happened to Holly Bobo started".
