Hurricane Jose a potential threat to East Coast next week

Expect some occasional showers in central Virginia on Tuesday and Tuesday night, but not a continuous all-day rainfall.

Otherwise, it will be cloudy, humid and mild on Tuesday with a high in the lower 70s.

A constant dose of wind shear could keep Jose from exploding back into a major hurricane, but it's over waters that are warm enough to prevent it from dying out entirely.

There are no hurricane watches or warnings associated with Jose.

It's headed on a "rather odd forecast track", the center said.

Hurricane Jose is located 400 miles north-northeast of Grand Turk Island and is moving to the northeast at 6 mph (9 km/h).

A few of our computer models have it making landfall in New Jersey, others have it scraping the New England coast, and many models take the storm completely out to sea. Jose is then expected to move slowly toward the east and southeast Tuesday into Wednesday and later back toward the west and the US, according to the National Hurricane Center's latest forecast.

By early Saturday, it will have come out of its loop and it will be about 340 miles east of Florida, with 90-mile-per-hour winds, according to the center's forecast. But don't be fooled: Jose's track is far from definite as of Monday afternoon.

However, Irma is expected to fizzle out over land while Hurricane Jose will make a loop before moving west again. Storms that have moved slowly between Hispaniola and Bermuda in the past have set up memorable runs of waves for both locations and all the variables look to be coming into place for Jose to produce.

"Remnants of tropical storms can bring more unsettled conditions into north-west Europe, taking on the characteristics of an Atlantic storm".

-The Jose swell will be greeted with favorable winds for many locations in the Caribbean and also along the East Coast, especially in the Northeast.

The same advice from the early days of Irma applies to Jose: an eventual effect on North Carolina or Virginia's weather early next week can't be ruled out, but it's far from assured. It will threaten the USA east coast from Florida to the Carolinas.
