Bollywood producer Karim Morani surrendered to police here in connection with the alleged rape of a 25-year-old aspiring actress, hours after the Supreme Court dismissed his bail plea. Though, the Apex Court also sustained the high court's decision on Friday, following which Morani was arrested by the Hyderabad Police.

A lower court this year had granted anticipatory bail to Morani but subsequently cancelled it after it was found that the producer had concealed some facts in his bail plea regarding his involvement in a corruption case.

Mr Rohatgi maintained that there was no rape and it was a consensual sex with the girl. "After completing the mandatory medical formalities, he would be produced before the court today (Saturday)", Hayatnagar police inspector J Narender Goud told Hindustan Times.

The case was booked against Morani in March 2017 when the woman approached the police claiming that Morani promised her roles in films but cheated her after exploiting her. She said, "I didn't know what was happening nor did I know how to react".

Morani is also facing trial in 2G spectrum allocation scam case probed by CBI and a separate money laundering case by ED. The MBA student was first raped by Morani in July 2015 when the latter invited her for a party and drugged her. When I spoke to his family, they did not even react.

Following the complaint, the producer was booked under IPC sections 417 (punishment for cheating), 376 (rape), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage) and other relevant sections of the IPC.

The Chennai Express producer was accused of rape earlier this year.
