Iran vows to boost missile defenses despite U.S. criticism

Trump said on Wednesday he had made his decision but was not yet ready to reveal it.

"On the one hand Iran is trying to demonstrate they are the pragmatic rational actor here and maintain unity among the other signatories of the nuclear agreement, even if from the U.S. side it starts to unravel", Vakil told CNN.

"The current foreign policy of the U.S. gives the impression that negotiating with the USA is useless", asserted the Iranian minister.

It's been known that Iran has had a missile with a range capable of reaching Israel, said Mark Fitzpatrick, executive director of the Institute for Internal Strategic Studies-Americas, a think tank. -Iranian encounter since Trump became president. Mogherini said that all parties in the meeting agreed that Iran is in compliance with the deal.

However, Tillerson said the White House is now turning its back on the deal because of "political aspects".

Iranian officials have argued that the measure only applies to missiles specifically created to carry nuclear warheads. In actually, the "deal" just gave Iran access to tens of billions of dollars and an eventual nuclear weapons capability.

"One can nearly set the countdown clock to Iran resuming its nuclear activities", Tillerson said.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday said that although the 2015 Iran deal was not ideal, the worldwide community should stick with it or risk facing another situation like North Korea.

In her comments, Mogherini also alluded to North Korea, but made the opposite argument, saying "the worldwide community can not afford to dismantle an agreement that is working".

US officials have said in recent weeks that Trump may try to supplement the deal by extending its provisions that ban Iran from possessing significant stockpiles of enriched uranium for 15 years.

He said the entire global community commended the deal, "except only two people", referring to US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who used their United Nations speeches to attack the JCPOA.

"There was some discussion by some people that the nuclear deal isn't very bad but shouldn't stay as it is. Whether you like it or not we are going to help Syria, Yemen and Palestine, and we will strengthen our missiles".

Sitting in the audience as Trump uttered this insult were leaders of the other nations who, along with the United States, negotiated the Iran deal. In a dismissive jab at Trump he said, "It will be a great pity if this agreement were to be destroyed by rogue newcomers to the world of politics".

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that his country is "extremely concerned" by the recent statements of the Trump administration regarding the JCPOA. That echoes criticism even some of America's allies have leveled at a time when the United States hopes to draw North Korea into a negotiation over its rapidly expanding nuclear arsenal. He said Trump is seeking "an excuse" to pull out of the nuclear deal and it would be a "waste of time" for him to meet the president.

"When it comes to defending our country, we will ask nobody for their permission", he added, stressing that the measures were "necessary for deterrence."Donald Trump UN speech: Typical rhetoric raises tensions with North Korea and Iran".
