North Kashmir Protest against persecution of Rohingya Muslims

The United Nations on Thursday said that almost 164,000 Rohingya have escaped to Bangladesh over the past two weeks in the wake of a massive security sweep and alleged atrocities by the country's security forces and Buddhist mobs against the Rohingya. They have faced routine and public discrimination for decades, most notably the denial of citizenship. The government, he added, "inherited a host of enormous challenges". Critics of President Trump could take a lesson from this too.

The US, a principal backer of the Suu Kyi civilian government that came to power in 2016, said there had been shortcomings on the part of Myanmar security forces and the government in dealing with the situation. "They are illegal immigrants in India", Rijiju told the media.

In his call with reporters, Murphy termed those discussions productive and ongoing, and said the USA is finding "very willing partners within the government".

Gentle persuasion doesn't appear to be working.

The organisation that oversees the Nobel peace prize said Aung Sang Suu Kyi's 1991 prize can not be revoked. My relatives were not Rohingya, who have been a Burmese minority for centuries and are being ethnically cleansed now, but Indians from Gujarat who had settled in Burma as traders with the encouragement of the British Raj.

Iranian worshipers have staged rallies in Tehran and many other cities to express their outrage at the ongoing brutal violence against the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Human rights groups are equally appalled. "It requires the attention of the British government at the highest level", they said in a letter to British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson on Wednesday.

The Independent reported that Boris Johnson has been urged by 157 MPs and peers to suspend Britain's training of the Myanmarese armed forces. And Aung San Suu Kyi has chosen to remain silent on it all.

The parliamentarians welcomed his statement but urged the Government to suspend British training of the Myanmarese military, which cost the United Kingdom around £305,000 a year ago, given reports of beheadings, rape and children being deliberately shot.

"I think we need to continue to work with the government in Myanmar with Aung San Suu Kyi with all people in the region to make sure that the people affected by this conflict are kept safe", Trudeau said from the Liberal party's caucus retreat in Kelowna.

Tutu's September 7 letter came as the United Nations migration agency, the IOM and the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR both said that 270,000 people have fled violence in Myanmar to seek safety in Bangladesh in two weeks.

She received the award in 1991 for "her non-violent struggle for democracy and human rights" while standing up against military rulers.

Whatever the reason, Suu Kyi's silence has rapidly depleted her remaining reserves of global moral capital. And a bill making its way through Congress even talks about enhancing U.S. -Myanmar military cooperation. "What a bad signal to be sending".

Kyle Matthews is Executive Director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies at Concordia University. Suu Kyi's biographer has suggested she retire. Still, there are some who have excused and chosen to interpret her silence on the Rohingya's suffering as neutral.

More than 386,000 people have signed a petition on Change.org, calling for Suu Kyi's Peace Prize to be stripped from her due to the persecution of her country's Rohingya Muslim minority. Under the junta-drafted 2008 Constitution, Myanmar's military retains mostly independent of the executive.
