Israel's Netanyahu Calls on World to Change or Cancel Iran Deal

Israel's Netanyahu vows to fight 'Iranian curtain'

US President Donald Trump has in a strongly-worded address to the United Nations General Assembly expressed his opposition to the internationally-negotiated nuclear agreement with Iran, calling it an "embarrassment" and raising questions as to whether the US will choose to stay in the 2015 accord as one of the signatories.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Wednesday that Trump had not informed him or others in the administration about his decision and had refused to share it with British Prime Minister Theresa May when she asked him about it.

Trump has sent strong signals that he could walk away from the seven-nation agreement, which would potentially lead to new USA sanctions on Iran and its worldwide trading partners.

He said the most important change was to eliminate the so-called "sunset" clauses under which some of the deal's restrictions on Iran's nuclear program expire over time. Trump called the Obama-era deal aiming to curtail Iran's nuclear program "one of the worst and most one-sided transactions" in history.

UN inspectors say Iran has fulfilled its commitments to give up its nuclear activities under the agreement, which was reached with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany.

The Trump administration has until October 15 to decide whether to certify that Iran is complying with the deal.

The analyst also asserted that Trump's speech was not full of "the diplomatic niceties" that normally transact speeches at the UN General Assembly, adding that it was a very "direct" address in which the United States president laid out in "very clear and undiplomatic words" his dislike for the JCPOA.

Trump often calls the Iranians the rogue regime. Now, Tillerson on the other hand said that while it's technically true that Iran is not violating the deal, the USA thinks that Iran is violating the spirit of the deal by being a bad actor in other areas.

After threatening to "destroy" North Korea over its nuclear threats, he vowed to not allow Iran to build its own arsenal.

The Israeli leader drew a distinction between Iranians and their government, saying in Farsi to the Iranian people: "You are our friends". He accused Trump of using - and these are Rouhani's words - ignorant, absurd and hateful rhetoric.

He then asked the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who is in NY for UN General Assembly meeting, to "show strong, revolutionary and revealing stance" in his speech at the UN.

"By violating its global commitments, the new USA administration only destroys its own credibility and undermines worldwide confidence in negotiating with it or accepting its word or promise", Rouhani said.

"We can not let a murderous regime continue these destabilizing activities while building risky missiles", Trump said.

Trump delivered a doomsday warning to North Korea in his United Nations address on Tuesday and mocked its young leader.

In any event, the U.S.

His overthrow, which is still given as a reason for the Iranians' mistrust of the United Kingdom and the USA, consolidated the Shah's rule for the following 26 years until the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, led by Imam Khomeini, which toppled the US-backed monarchy.

CHANG: Is Iran even remotely open to renegotiating this deal? "It was not an angry tone at all, it was a very, very matter-of-fact exchange about how we see this deal very differently".

The rhetorical threats have anxious the other countries who are part of the agreement: Britain, China, France, Germany and Russian Federation.
