Japan PM warns N.Korea against continuing nuclear program

Reunification, not war, in Korea

Reunification, not war, in Korea

Han Tae Song, ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the United Nations in Geneva, was addressing the UN-sponsored Conference on Disarmament two days after his country detonated its sixth nuclear test explosion.

Communist dictator Kim Jong-un, both in quotes and through state media, has threatened to attack the United States with a nuclear weapon once the nation's program is fully developed. Seoul's Defense Ministry has said the US military will begin installing the additional launchers Thursday.

"The US will receive more gift packages from my country as long as its relies on reckless provocations and futile attempts to put pressure on the DPRK".

The decision to deploy the THAAD system has drawn strong objections from China, which believes its radar could be used to look deeply into its territory and will upset the regional security balance. Rather, offering an end to sanctions would be a better incentive for the North to end its weapons programs, he said. We'll see whether or not he can do it. "We ultimately need talks with North Korea, but it is not the time right now to speak of a dialogue with North Korea".

Dozens have been injured in clashes between protesters and police in a South Korea farming village where the US military will begin installing additional launchers to a contentious USA missile defense system. "There is no other way to solve the North Korean nuclear issue, apart from through peaceful dialogue".

Liu urged the parties to agree to a Chinese-Russian plan calling for the North to freeze its missile and nuclear tests and the United States and South Korea to suspend joint military exercises.

The deployment follows a spate of recent North Korean ballistic missile and nuclear tests, and increasingly heated rhetoric between Kim and US President Donald Trump.

Abe also invited Moon to a trilateral meeting between China, Japan and South Korea in Tokyo and Moon said he would be happy to attend if such a summit happened.

It was not known if China would support the tough new moves against Pyongyang.

Pyongyang is barred from testing nuclear and ballistic missiles, and was recently hit with strengthened UN Security Council sanctions for launching a pair of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) in July. While North Korea appeared to possess both nuclear warheads and ICBMs, the program appears to be struggling to miniaturize a warhead so that it fits onto an ICBM and has the reach necessary to strike the USA mainland.

Haley did not spell out what measures Washington was seeking, but diplomats said they could target oil supplies to North Korea, potentially dealing a major blow to its economy.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in strongly opposed the deployment of the THAAD system to his country before taking office.
