Bullet Train Great. How About Normal Trains On Time Ask Passengers

The Japanese prime minister will arrive in Ahmedabad on Wednesday for the foundation ceremony slated for Thursday.

The distance of 508 km will be covered in two hours and seven minutes by the bullet train if it stops at four stations namely Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Mumbai.

Of the Rs1,10,000 crore, Rs88,000 crore, or almost 85 per cent of the total cost, will come as a soft loan from the Japanese government. It will have a capacity of 750 passengers.

The completion of the project, which had a deadline of December 2023, may be advanced to August 2022 to coincide the country's 75th Independence Day celebrations. The Gujarat government is preparing to host the event to take place at Mahatma Mandir in state capital city Gandhinagar and 15 MoUs will be signed here. The Gujarat government is taking this event "India Japan Annual Meet" as a modified version of Vibrant Gujarat Summit having the participation of more than 100 Japanese corporates and envoys. Interestingly, the two-thirds of it is expected to fall within Gujarat.

Abe, his wife and the accompanying delegation will reach Gujarat on Wednesday evening.

Another highlight of Abe's trip to India will be the groundbreaking ceremony for a high-speed railway project, which is expected to link the western Indian cities of Ahmadabad and Mumbai, employing Japan's "shinkansen" bullet train technology. "The two leaders will review the recent progress in the multifaceted cooperation between India and Japan under the framework of their special strategic and global partnership and will set its future direction", MEA said in a statement.

Suzuki's Rs-3,000 crore investment along with Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India's Rs -1,100 crore are some of the big-ticket Japanese investments in the state recently. The growth is nearly four times when compared to the 2013-14 levels.

As per Indian Express report, a state government official said,"Abe is visiting Gujarat at a time when the current Japanese investments in the state are close to one billion U.S. dollars". Already, the first Japanese industrial park has been developed at Vithalapur where Japanese companies have made an investment of Rs 1,500 crore.

Japan was the only major country which conveyed its unequivocal support to India and Bhutan through diplomatic channels during the Doklam standoff.
