The backup sample of UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones' failed drug test from UFC 214 in Anaheim, Calif., was confirmed positive for a banned substance, a spokesperson for the United States Anti-Doping Agency said Tuesday. ESPN's Brett Okamoto was the first to report on the news.

As of now, the UFC hasn't stripped Jones of his title. "Importantly - as previously stated - due process should occur before drawing any conclusions about this matter", a USADA spokesperson confirmed in an email to MMAWeekly.com.

Per USADA rules, Jones faces a suspension of up to four years.

Now with a second positive test coming back nearly exactly one year later, Jones faces an even stiffer penalty as a result. TMZ Sports reported the substance was Turinabol, an anabolic steroid.

The result of the failed test wasn't announced until several weeks after the fight - which Jones won via third round knockout. Helwani also noted Jones passed tests on July 6 and July 7, although his July 28 urine test came back positive.

On Aug. 22, the UFC released a statement revealing it was told of Jones' positive test that was collected after his weigh-in for the fight against Cormier.

Jones was forced to pull out of a scheduled title fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 in July 2016 after he tested positive for multiple anti-estrogenic agents. We'll have more details as they become available.
