Katia was initially measured as a Category 1 storm with 75 miles per hour winds - far less powerful than Irma, which is quickly approaching Florida, and Jose which remains farther out in the Atlantic Ocean.

Waves break over the sea wall ahead of Hurricane Katia in Veracruz, Mexico, September 7, 2017.

Hurricane Katia becomes a Category 2 and started today its movement in the Gulf of Mexico towards the coasts of Veracruz state, by where it will touch land in the first morning hours on Saturday, according to the Meteorological Service.

Three hurricanes are in the Atlantic simultaneously: Katia, Jose, and Irma.

By Saturday afternoon, the hurricane is expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm.

The storm had weakened to a Category One storm - the lowest on the five-level Saffir-Simpson scale - by the time it reached the state of Veracruz in the Gulf of Mexico.

Below are some more images shared by Hurricane Hunters from inside Hurricane Irma.

Hurricane Jose, around 840 miles east of Florida, is following a similar path and could hit the same islands by the weekend.

Irma has set records as the second-most intense Atlantic hurricane in recorded history.

They followed Hurricane Harvey which killed about 60 people and caused property damage estimated at $180 billion after pummeling the coasts of Texas and Louisiana with torrential rain and severe flooding.
