This is the first year that the new Framework for Junior Cycle has been in place for students, affecting just one subject, the English paper.

The Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton T.D, congratulated over 61,000 (61,654) students on receiving their provisional Junior Certificate/Cycle results today.

This year saw more students taking on higher level maths and Irish than ever before.

"We receive countless phone calls and emails from parents who are unsure of how to approach the subject of alcohol with their teenagers, particularly leading up to exam results time". Today marks the completion of your junior cycle and it is a proud moment for yourselves, your parents and your teachers. "It is positive and encouraging to see the changes to the Junior Cycle coming to fruition".

The number of students achieving top marks in the Junior Certificate has fallen this year.

Students can also access their results through the on-line examination results service on from 4pm today.

Both the assessment and grading systems for the subject have changed as a result. They will know very shortly now and parents, teachers and the students themselves are bracing themselves for the results.
