With that disclaimer, and with all we were told yesterday about how the club lacks money to pull off "major signings", the Daily Mail is reporting today that Arsenal has made a £90 million bid for Monaco's Thomas Lemar.

Perhaps the only thing clear at this moment is that Thomas Lemar will not transfer to Arsenal today and that the London club will now hold on to Alexis Sanchez-and given how things have gone today, it would be a fearless person willing to bet on even that still being a certainty in another hour.

Liverpool are also in the mix for the highly-rated 21-year-old, who is now away on global duty.

Earlier in August, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said that their attempts to sign Lemar had ended and the deal was "dead".

Thomas Lemar is keen on a move to Liverpool.

But, although Arsenal were reportedly willing to pay as much as €100million to buy Lemar, the player's involvement against Netherlands in Paris for Les Bleus' key World Cup qualifier appears to indicate he will stay with the Ligue 1 champions.

Both players were instrumental in winning the French title with Monaco last season, their first league win since 2000.

Whilst many may question his ability to adapt to the much more physical challenge of the Premier League, his two goals across two legs against Spurs in the Champions League this year suggests this will not be such an issue.

However, Lemar, who is now playing for France against the Netherlands in their World Cup qualification game, has sensationally rejected the chance to move to the Gunners.
