LSU football struggles with penalties, lose big to Bulldogs in SEC opener

Mississippi State reaches the red zone but LSU holds them to a FG.

The Tigers are still struggling with penalties a week after LSU coach Ed Orgeron specifically addressed the issue in his postgame press conference. LSU quarterback Danny Etling completed just 14 of 30 passes for 136 yards.

Scoreless through the 1st quarter, the Bulldogs strike first with a Nick Fitzgerald TD run to cap a 65 yard drive in the second.

If this game was a measuring stick, then Mississippi State proved No. 12 LSU wasn't ready to size up. Linebacker Donnie Alexander and defensive tackle Neil Farrell Jr. will miss time when LSU faces Syracuse on Saturday.

In past two losses to LSU, Mississippi State ran for a combined 99 yards. Aeris Williams had a superb game running the ball as well (23 carries for 146 yards), while Keith Mixon chipped in with six receptions for 97 yards and a score.
