Man Utd, Mourinho denies he 'influenced' Lukaku swoop

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Manchester United will beat Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford this afternoon.

The 2-2 draw at Stoke City ended United's 100% start to the season, and Jose Mourinho will be hoping to bounce back with a win against Everton today, as Romelu Lukaku faces his former club for the first time since leaving Goodison Park over the summer.

Sunday will mark Rooney's first encounter against his former team mates since leaving, but Mourinho remains confident that he will receive a positive reception from United fans because of his achievements at the club. This defeat for "toffee" was the third in a row, while in none of these matches Everton even scored a goal.

Lukaku has gone on to score six goals in as many games for the Red Devils.

The Portuguese tactician hasn't failed to win a league title in his follow-up campaign at any of the clubs he's managed over the years, claiming the top spot on every occasion from stints at Porto, Chelsea (both times), Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Asked about landing Lukaku, Mourinho said: ' I don't think it was my influence, no.

Ibrahimovic, who is recovering from cruciate knee ligament damage, is likely to play a significant part in the second half of the season after signing a new one-year contract in August, offering Lukaku competition for his place in United's attack.

"That power is not just to buy but also to keep and say: "No, we don't sell". United will find a way through, while I don't think Everton will", he added.

"At the team level, I am happy", he said. I think it's very stupid to compare the incomparable. When players are so different, there is no point in comparing.
