Manchester United's defense of the Carabao Cup opened in fine fashion on Wednesday with a 4-1 victory over Burton Albion.

It was Clough's son Nigel on the receiving end last night as Marcus Rashford, with two, and Jesse Lingard fired United 3-0 up at half-time, before Anthony Martial hit No 4.

Mourinho picked him for last season's league game against Crystal Palace and he went on to become United's youngest ever Premier League player when he came on with just two minutes remaining.

Rashford put Manchester United in control after just four minutes following Jesse Lingard's flick-on, gently lifting the ball over Connor Ripley.

Jose Mourinho needs one more League Cup winners' medal to become the most successful manager in the competition's history. They would lose the replay at Old Trafford 5-0, but they still earned the respect of many around England, especially for the record-setting 11,000 traveling fans who supported their club at Old Trafford that winter day.

Jose Mourinho will rotate his squad for the visit of Burton, with Victor Lindelof -who impressed in the Champions League against Basel- and Michael Carrick set to start. "It makes you better as a player and also as a team, and it shows the strength of the competition if someone comes in and they're ready". He needs to come out of that comfort zone because if he wants to be Manchester United's left-back he has to play at the level of someone like Ander Herrera, who got his chance and flew into every tackle.

"Maybe we'd be fresher for European competition, for example".

"Howard says "I think it might have been a penalty" and our chairman says "it definitely wasn't". Mourinho has won it four times during his managerial career - and he will be well aware that a fifth success would take him above Sir Alex Ferguson and the late Brian Clough as the most successful manager in the competition's history.

But instead of commending Rashford for his performance, Mourinho was quick to heap praise on his whole side as they booked a spot in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

"But we have this competition, we have to respect, we have to respect the sponsors, we have to respect the opponents, we have to respect the professionalism of all of us trying to do the best".

Antonio Conte made nine changes from Sunday's 0-0 draw against Arsenal, with Eden Hazard given his first start of the season after recovering from ankle surgery.

"We've started very well, we are playing very well, so I hope we can continue".

'Sometimes players are not keen to enjoy these games and be professional so I'm happy with that'. I'm always ready to play, I think I demonstrated that a year ago when I played 18 games and you saw how I did in those 18 games.
