Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is pinning his hopes on David Luiz playing against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League next week even though the defender has a broken wrist.

Morata struck three times at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday to take his Chelsea tally to seven goals in six games since his close-season move from Atletico's local rivals Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old full-back played a key role in Chelsea winning the Premier League title last season after he joined the club from Fiorentina last summer.

The Brazilian-born Spanish worldwide did not return to west London this summer after being told via text message that Antonio Conte no longer had him in his plans.

The next two matches are, arguably, the biggest of Antonio Conte's tenure.

"I think past year they were quite good at taking things up to a line and not crossing it, and maybe they have just got that balance a little bit wrong".

"He renewed his contract with Chelsea for many years - a long contract - and this shows that we trust him".

Diego Simeone then quickly withdrew Griezmann and Carrasco to keep them fresh for Wednesday's visit of Chelsea in the Champions League.

Making a £25m profit on a player who had reached the end of the road at Chelsea, in a deal that observers expected to be subject to the usual market forces surrounding a distressed sale, takes hardball to a new level.

After a week that saw Diego Costa agree his long-awaited exit, Chelsea's attack has had a facelift, replacing the snarling, combative Costa for, as Conte put it, "a polite player... the type of person you'd like to see marry your daughter".

"Now it is very important to prepare".

"'We have to prepare in the right way for this tough game, and my players are ready to fight for the three points, " Conte explained.

"Clearly, I would have preferred for him to continue as a team-mate", he told Marca. It was important to not lose our composure, to always stay in the game and in the second half we scored two goals and we created many chances to improve the final result.

"I'm proud of the club's efforts to bring a player who is among the top three strikers in the world", Atletico's Brazilian left back, Filipe Luis, said.

As per Marca, Everton offered €75M in exchange for the Spain global, but Costa had his heart set on a return to Atletico Madrid.
