Mother Of Woman Found In Hotel Freezer Claims Police Didn't Do Enough

Woman Found Dead In Walk-In Freezer At Rosemont Hotel

Kenneka L. Jenkins, 19, was found dead inside an industrial walk-in freezer at Rosemont's Crowne Plaza around midnight Sunday, more than 24 hours after leaving her home on Chicago's West Side to party with friends at the hotel and conference center near O'Hare International Airport.

One, a viral Facebook Live video apparently made during the party, appears to show Jenkins and others listening to loud music inside a hotel room.

Her body was not discovered until almost 24 hours later after the family repeatedly contacted the hotel and police, at one point knocking on doors until officers stopped them.

Tereasa Martin, the mother of Kenneka Jenkins, is furious with the Rosemont, Chicago police over the way they initially handled the death investigation for her daughter. In it, Jenkins appears to be sitting on the bed with a group of people around her, leading numerous video's 4 million viewers to believe there was foul play involved in her death.

The teen's mother tried to convince the hotel staff to look into the surveillance video for her missing daughter but they said that they would need a missing person's report.

The clip has fueled speculation online that the young woman's death was no accident, with skeptics endeavoring to decode the video and surface clues that point to a potential setup.

It's unclear who found Jenkins and how exactly her body was discovered. He told the Chicago Tribune investigators are reviewing the footage and that most of the people seen in the video have been identified. "They are leaving no stone unturned as far as trying to corral everyone they can and talk to them and interview them about what happened and what was going on that night".

Several other videos shared by Shelton that depict Jenkins have also been viewed millions of times.

Mack said that it could take weeks to determine what led to Jenkins's death. Martin has expressed doubt over the police account with which she said she was presented: that Jenkins entered the freezer while drunk and died.

They also said they are waiting for more conclusive results from the medical examiner's office which could be available as early as Wednesday.

"I don't think anything has been ruled in or ruled out at this point", Mack said. "If it was unused, I don't know".

Police were investigating the death of Jenkins and watched the videos her friends posted to Facebook. "I suppose they searched everywhere", he said.

There's no telling if the words "help me" are really what was said and, if so, it is unclear who may have said them, but social media detectives are convinced that Jenkins was in trouble and that she was calling out for help. "If she had enough strength to open that freezer door, she would have had enough strength to walk straight", Harris said. Police said her body was beyond resuscitation.
