New Amazon Fire TV Leaked with Alexa Speaker

Like other Fire TVs, the new device will let you stream videos from Amazon and Netflix. The report claims that the first of Amazon's new Fire TV streaming devices will be a dongle that hangs off of the side of the TV (similar to the Chromecast), while the second model is a cube-shaped set-top box that features far-field microphones, a built-in speaker, an LED bar and doubles as a Alexa-equipped Echo.

The new Fire TV dongle will give Amazon aficionados a less expensive way to get 4K content, which Amazon now limits to its $100 Fire TV.

With two new Amazon devices and a new Apple TV en route, it's only a matter of time before we have another all-out streaming box battle. Unlike previous models, though, it reportedly will allow you to interact with Amazon's Alexa smart assistant even when your TV isn't on. It also reportedly supports 4K.

The company will also be releasing a smaller version of the original Fire TV that will attach to your TV like a dongle, according to the report.

While we're expecting a new, 4K HDR-capable Apple TV box to be announced tomorrow, Amazon already has plans to upstage it.

CNBC reached out to Amazon for comment but a spokesperson was not immediately available.

The more expensive upcoming Fire TV option is a cube that features an LED bar to show you when Alexa is listening and responding.

Amazon is planning to release two new Fire TV models before the end of 2017. Without the luxury of a leaked benchmark, I don't know anything about its technical specifications, but I have learned that it essentially combines the functionality of a Fire TV, an Echo Dot, and an IR emitter, like the Harmony Hub, into a single device. Much like the Fire TV Stick, the new mid-tier Fire TV will only have an HDMI plug and a micro USB port that is used for power.
