New Detroit Tigers prospect Grayson Long projects as 'solid' Major League Baseball starter

Upton, who signed a 6-year, $132.75 million contract with the Tigers prior to the 2016 season, would still be owed $88.5 million over the next four seasons.

The Detroit Tigers say they're serious about rebuilding through their farm system.

Rosenthal speculated the return on Upton won't be substantial, both because the Tigers are using it as an opportunity to shed payroll and there's no guarantee the Angels retain the outfielder past this season. Upton is now on pace for the best season of his career as his 28 homers are just three off his career high while his RBI total of 94 is just eight short of his career high of 102.

Justin Upton was brought in from Detroit and that essentially made Maybin expendable.

They sent prospect Grayson Long to the Tigers in the deal.

While he could potentially be moved at any point, he has to be on his new team by midnight ET Thursday in order to be eligible for the playoff roster.

Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, pictured in the first inning of a game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on August 4, 2017 in Baltimore, is still being mentioned in trade rumors after the trade deadline.

Los Angeles began the day one game behind Minnesota (69-63) for the second American League wild card spot.

The Angels have agreed to trade Maybin to the Astros for cash considerations, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

The four-time all-star signed a six-year, $132.75 million USA deal to join Detroit before last season.

Upton is under contract through 2021 and is due $22.125 million in each of the next four seasons, plus about $3.5 million for the rest of this season. Another minor leaguer to be named later is also included. He joined the Angels last winter in a trade with Detroit.
