Pep Guardiola calms talk of Champions League success for Manchester City

The only difference at Barcelona and Bayern Munich is that the players had played in the Champions League many more times before than the players at Manchester City right now.

Elsehwere, Vincent Kompany did not make the trip having failed to sufficiently overcome the calf injury which ruled him out of the Liverpool game.

In addition, Guardiola said a "sporting decision" had been made to omit midfielder Yaya Toure from his squad.

"I spoke with him and he knows the reason why but it is between him and me", Guardiola said when asked about Toure's absence at De Kuip, although he clarified application in training was not the issue. Guardiola praised Toure's role in his side that gave them the balance, experience and control he was searching for. The coach sold the midfielder to City when he was at Barcelona, and last season refused to play him after critical comments from agent Dimitri Seluk. To add to his woes, he has infuriated City boss Pep Guardiola, after returning from the global break with a knock. "Hopefully he'll play soon, but it depends on him".

"I'm so happy with the what I have, I was so happy last season. I want more, not just from Yaya - I want more from everyone".

The City goalkeeper left the field on a stretcher at the weekend after being caught in the face by a high boot from Sadio Mane, a challenge that saw the Liverpool forward sent off. But Ederson went up for three long balls in training Tuesday morning and will be assessed on Wednesday. We'll see. Last season we did good things, it wasn't enough [City lost to Monaco in the round-of 16 on away goals].

City defender John Stones praised the keeper's bravery, saying: "Ederson has got on with it straight away". He wants to be around the team, in that environment. His face - everyone has seen the stitches and swelling.

Meanwhile, Guardiola played down suggestions that playing Dutch champions Feyenoord represented an easy start to this season's campaign and said he would field his strongest lineup. I respect Feyenoord. I will put my best team on the pitch. I was a football player working with my idol Johan Cruyff [at Barcelona] and after that Louis van Gaal, a lot of Holland players in my team. He said City were still 'growing, ' despite a study which showed the total spend on this squad is £775m, £3m more than the amount spent by the Paris St-Germain side now parading £200m Neymar.
