The Brazilian was the subject of three failed bids from the Catalan giants and submitted a written transfer request to swap Anfield for the Nou Camp.

"Go through the seven best teams in Europe, none of those players are getting in those teams, so as a manager you sit there and think, 'are they good enough, and if not what can I do about it?'" Sometimes you're interested and sometimes you're not.

"What happened was a job offer and, in life, sometimes you get interested, sometimes you don't", he explained.

"It's a great honour to receive an offer from a great club, but so is being here". But it's also a great honour to be here.

"And in my case, as everybody knows, I got interested, my family too".

"It was a complicated month for me, but like I said I'm here now. Liverpool is a great club".

"It was a hard month for me, but now it's all over and I must focus on having a good season, helping my team, thinking about Liverpool and the national team", he continued.

Coutinho also denied that there was an agreement with Barcelona over a move in the future, following suggestions he could follow Luis Suarez's lead and join next summer. "I am in a place that I have always been given respect by everyone and (I) too respect everyone", he said.

When asked whether he felt hurt with the way events turned out, Coutinho insists the ordeal is in the past and that he is focusing on having a successful 2017-18 season. "I have to work. I'm working hard, my thoughts are on the team's goals, making a good season".
