The Congress said on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat was a "one-sided" communication in which he did not speak on important issues such as the police action on BHU students, unemployment and high fuel prices. "There will be a value addition in tourism only when we travel not only as a visitor but also like a student and make efforts to assimilate, understand and adapt".

"(Through the programme) I got a unique opportunity of connecting with the people and knowing their feelings, wishes, aspirations and even complaints and I never said that this is my "Mann Ki Baat" (my voice)", Mr Modi said.

With the opposition parties attacking government's handling of the economy by citing the fall in GDP rate and demonetisation figures, Modi is expected to take them on and highlight his dispensation's "successes" in boosting transparency and curbing black money, party sources said. The initiative will help increase Khadi sales which will in turn help the poor who are engaged in the Khadi business to be able to light a Diwali lamp in their house. On September 12, PM Modi said that people lose the right to chant Vande Mataram if they can't keep the country clean, as he also urged people to fight social evils such as disrespect to women.

Bilal Dar earns his living by picking up waste from the Wular Lake in Bandipura district of North Kashmir.

Modi also hailed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation for appointing Dar its brand ambassador. He said, the reference of Selfie With Daughter in Mann ki Baat became a big campaign not only in India but in the whole world. He urged the masses to promote khadi usage and take it forward as a movement. "Most of these are inspiring to me", he said.

He said Swati Mahadik and Nidhi Dubey, whose husbands were martyred in the defence of the country, were a great inspiration to the country. "I congratulate Bilal Dar", Modi said.
