PM Narendra Modi Leaves For Myanmar For First Bilateral Visit

Competent authorities of Myanmar have information about plans of militants to carry out terror attacks using explosives against the civilian population in the country's major cities, including Naypyidaw, Yangon and Mandalay.

Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi has also come under increasing worldwide pressure to resolve the humanitarian crisis engulfing Rakhine state.

"If they allowed the United Nations or human rights bodies to go to the place to find out what is happening then this misinformation is not going to take place", said BBC Burmese Service's Tin Htar Swe.

Journalists on a government-controlled trip saw the fires Thursday in Gawdu Zara village in northern Rakhine state, from which some 146,000 Rohingya have fled since ethnic violence erupted about two weeks ago.

The latest violence was sparked when insurgent fighters of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army attacked government troops on August 25.

UNICEF's Boulierac said more than 80 percent of the Rohingya - more than 100,000 people who crossed into Bangladesh - were children and women.

Many other country officials are having talks with the state councilor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi to stop the conflicts.

Her intervention, quoted on the Facebook page of her State Counsellor's office, followed a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has led the global chorus of condemnation of a Myanmar army crackdown on the Rohingya.

The recent violence began late last month when Rohingya insurgents attacked dozens of police posts and an army base, leading to the deaths of 12 security officers and 77 Rohingya Muslims. "We greatly appreciate the hospitality extended by the government and people of Bangladesh for many decades", said Christos Stylianides, the European Union commissioner for humanitarian aid and crisis management.

Bangladesh summoned the Myanmar ambassador on Wednesday to protest the planting of landmines along the border, after a series of explosions maimed Rohingya fleeing violence in the Southeast Asian country.

"The moral issue here is as a government, as a Nobel Laureate, we are expecting her to say something at least for the Rohingya community as a human being, not more than this", said Kyaw Win of the Burma Human Rights network.

However, Aung San Suu Kyi also said there had been "a huge iceberg of misinformation" about the violence in Rakhine state.

The violence has been condemned by the worldwide community; Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan labelled it a "genocide" last week.
