Earlier the Sena had criticised the government over the bullet train project terming it futile and load-shedding which has resumed in the state owing to shortage of coal

The Sena had yesterday slammed the bullet train project, saying it was not a dream of the common man but that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mumbai: A day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe perform the groundbreaking ceremony for a bullet train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, the state government has agreed to allocate 0.9 hectares of land at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) required for the railway station, but with certain pre-conditions. The opposition Congress, on the other hand, has dared the Shiv Sena and asked the party to stop issuing warnings and to instead appeal Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for Mehta's removal.BJP group leader Manoj Kotak told DNA: "MC is doing a good job". "Japan will bring everything for the project - from nails to rails, manpower to technology and even cement-concrete, ". Expressing their stance on the matter through its mouthpiece Saamana, the Sena said the Maharashtra government would have to invest Rs.30,000 crore towards the project purely to satisfy the "wealthy dream" of Modi. But the point is that no timeline was defined for that, the Sena pointed out.

It also criticized that the bullet train project was being fast tracked even as there were a number of railway projects in Vidharbha, Konkan and Marathwada that were yet to commence. All these projects were needed for the nation. It also sought to know if the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high speed train project really fits into the needs of the country. The train is expected to cover the distance of over 500 km in less than three hours.

He added that Rs 60,000 crore was being spent on land acquisition and the estimated Rs 1,10,000 crore cost of the project could further escalate by the time it was implemented.

"The demands for loan waiver of farmers were being made since many years". Besides this, a senior official from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said that the state government wants Japan International Cooperation Agency (JAICA) to fund the Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train project on the same lines as the Ahmedabad-Mumbai project.

Taking a dig sarcastically, it said, "It is not entirely certain, as to which problem the bullet train is a solution for".
