The South Africa Football Association has said it will accept the decision that the World Cup qualifier against Senegal should be replayed after referee Joseph Lamptey's lifetime ban was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The match will be replayed during November's worldwide break and Senegal are now in a strong position to qualify for next summer's finals while South Africa's hopes of reaching Russian Federation are all but over.

"Following extra information from FIFA, we resolved on moral and ethical grounds that we can not benefit from corrupt activities", a national football association statement said.

"We are not formally challenging the decision (to replay the match) but we are going to register our concerns".

"We can not benefit from such and take the points", said SAFA president Danny Jordaan at a press conference on Tuesday morning.

Lamptey was subsequently banned for life for match manipulation after investigation.

SAFA had considered appealing the verdict, but has now agreed it should not benefit from the result on "moral and ethical" grounds.

FIFA's unprecedented decision to order a replay because of fixing must be confirmed by its organising committee for competitions at a meeting tomorrow.

It means that South Africa are now bottom of Group D with a single point from three matches and now trail the third-placed Senegalese by four points.

Thulani Hlatshwayo netted a penalty to give the hosts the lead after a contentious handball in the area.

South Africa won the home game 2-1 last November but Federation Internationale de Football Association ordered that it be replayed this November on a date yet to be decided.

The match in question took place in World Cup Qualifying group stages in November 2016.

Both of the top two now have six points with only the group winners earning a spot at Russian Federation 2018.
