South Korea says natural North Korea quake detected

Kim Jong Un calls Donald Trump a'dotard: Here's what all his insults mean

It was the first time for a North Korean leader to issue such a direct statement against a United States president, dramatically escalating the war of words between the former wartime foes and raising the worldwide nuclear standoff to a new level. It would ban exports of liquefied natural gas to the North immediately as well.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump ordered new sanctions that open the door wider to blacklisting people and entities doing business with the isolated nation, including its shipping and trade networks, further tightening the screws on Pyongyang's missile programme.

"We have no idea about what actions could be taken as it will be ordered by leader Kim Jong Un".

The quake was detected in Kilju county in North Hamgyong province, where North Korea's known Punggye-ri nuclear site is located, according to South Korea's meteorological agency.

An natural disaster measuring 3.4 magnitude on the richter scale was detected in North Korea, claimed China's Xinhua news agency. In two July flight tests, those missiles showed potential capability to reach deep into the USA mainland when perfected.

Kim responded in a statement, calling Trump a "mentally deranged USA dotard" and said "a frightened dog barks louder".

However, South Korea's state weather agency says there is insufficient ground to assume today's quake in the North to be linked to another missile test.

"This event occurred in the area of the previous North Korean nuclear tests", the USGS said.

China accounts of about 90 percent North Korea's trade, according to The Associated Press. In recent months, it has also launched a pair of still-developmental ICBMs it said were capable of striking the continental United States and two intermediate-range missiles that soared over Japanese territory.

The United States and South Korea are technically still at war with North Korea because the 1950-53 Korean conflict ended with a truce and not a peace treaty.

"I will surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged USA dotard with fire", Jong-un was quoted as saying by state-run KCNA news agency.

KCNA also published rare criticism of official Chinese media, saying comments on North Korea's nuclear program had damaged ties and suggested Beijing, its neighbor and only major ally, had sided with Washington.

That would demonstrate North Korea's claimed thermonuclear capability as a credible threat.

"In principle, China has always implemented the UN Security Council's resolutions in their entirety and fulfilled our due responsibility", Lu Kang, the Chinese spokesman, told a regular briefing.

"There is no way North Korea is going to give up its weapons right now".
