The Other Steve Smith Nominated to Pro Football Hall of Fame

6 former Bills listed as nominees for Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2018 class

With all those accomplishments, it's no surprise to look at the official list of Hall of Fame nominees for the class of 2018 and see the name "Steve Smith" under wide receivers, underlined as a newly eligible player. Also part of the 108 early nominees who are eligible for the first time, having been retired for five years when the class is chosen next February, are cornerback Ronde Barber, wideouts Donald Driver and Steve Smith (former Giant, Eagle and Ram), offensive linemen Steve Hutchinson, Matt Birk and Jeff Saturday, and defensive lineman Kyle Vanden Bosch.

All six of Buffalo's nominated players had long and prosperous careers, and they likely deserve to be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Denver Broncos' representation in the Pro Football Hall of Fame will likely continue to grow in the coming years. By years, he's eligible, having been retired for at least five seasons, but his 2,641 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns say otherwise. The selection committee will also determine that day if former Redskins general manager Bobby Beathard has enough of the vote to enter the Hall of Fame. He started all 16 games in ten of his seasons with Indianapolis.

Donaldson was selected to the Pro Bowl four straight seasons from 1986 to 1989, and at the time of his departure from the Colts, he had played in the third most games in franchise history (184). His best seasons were with the Titans, when he collected 38 ½ of his 58 career sacks and earned his three Pro Bowl invitations.

Saturday was the anchor of the Colts' offensive line from 1999 until 2011.

Hinton joined the Colts in a trade that sent John Elway to the Denver Broncos and left the club in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons in 1990.

Others who have been announced as candidates and played for the Redskins at some point in their careers include quarterback Rich Gannon and Donovan McNabb, running back Earnest Byner, wide receiver Henry Ellard and linebackers Wilber Marshall and Carl Banks. It is double the number that made the ballot a year ago.

Saturday was the anchor for one of the greatest offensive attacks in National Football League history, playing along the offensive line - mostly at center - for the Colts from 1999 through 2011 before wrapping up his career with the Green Bay Packers in 2012.

Saturday played 14 seaons in the NFL, including his first 13 years in Indianapolis after he went undrafted in the 1998 NFL Draft.
