Thousands of Juggalos to rally against gang branding in Washginton DC

Insane Clown Posse, Juggalos to march on Washington to fight gang distinction

At the Lincoln Memorial, about 1,500 juggalos staged an all-day rally and concert to protest what they say is class-based discrimination by law enforcement.

Here are photos from the event today, to see what happened. The fans of the horror-core rap duo Insane Clown Posse are often adorned in face paint, tattoos and other symbols similar to those of group. "At the end of the day, we're trying to determine whether or not we're going to have a safe event".

"Branding hundreds of thousands of music fans as gang members based on the acts of a few individuals defies logic and violates our most cherished of constitutional rights", Michael Steinberg, the ACLU of Michigan's legal director, said when the suit was filed in 2014.

"The Juggalo March is like the Boston Tea Party for music fans", Gill said.

Insane Clown Posse will be performing in Easton next month.

The term "Juggalo" is derived from the lyrics of one of the band's songs. Many not associated with gangs said they have been stopped by police while wearing band-related shirts or other gear.

If the crowd lacked the projected strength, they made up for it in show, with many participants decked out in pro-Trump garb and carrying American flags.

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in MI has been involved in their plight, stating that while Juggalos display distinctive tattoos and clothing and some wear clown makeup, this doesn't mean they are criminals. But back in 2011, the Justice Department's National Gang Intelligence Center decided the Juggalos were a "loosely organized hybrid gang," like the Crips, Bloods and MS-13.

The move followed a string of crimes from arson to homicide that were committed by people who were identified as Juggalos over the previous five or six years. Juggalos includes some criminal activity, but that it is unfair to single out followers of the Insane Clown Posse.

Supporters of the hip hop duo Insane Clown Posse, known as Juggalos, protest against the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department for listing them as a "loosely organised hybrid gang" in Washington September 16, 2017.

So far, the protest seems to be orderly, and with plenty of home-grown art and signs from those who are down with the clowns.

GettyA masked fan of the United States rap group Insane Clown Posse, known as Juggalos, holds placards and dresses like Trump.

"The Juggalos are fighting for the basic American right to freely express who they are, to gather and share their appreciation of music, and to discuss issues that are important to them without fear of being unfairly targeted and harassed by police".

Organizers of the march are expecting around 3,000 Juggalos in the Washington, DC rally, which starts at the Lincoln Memorial at 2 p.m.

There was little similarity between the Juggalo and Trump events - although facepainting was also available at the "mother of all rallies" - and with the distance of the Reflecting Pool between them, there seemed little chance of any crossover.
