Frankfurt 2017 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser Makes Its Public Debut

The 2018 Prado is headlined by new styling including a sculpted bonnet, re-profiled fenders and a revised grille flanked by new headlights.

The updated version of the Toyota Land Cruiser, one of the few remaining SUVs with true off-road capability, debuts at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Toyota Australia has unveiled the new, 2018 LandCruiser Prado, which brings in a new-look front end and updated design elements, increased technology and features, and amped up interior quality. In profile, the vehicle looks different thanks to a taller front bumper plus realigned wing lines and bumpers, all on the same horizontal axis.

The rear bumper is now also kicked up at the corners, and there is a choice of six-spoke 17 inch alloys with new, low rolling-resistance tyres, high gloss painted 18 inch alloys, or a new, 12-spoke, machined finish 19 inch design.

The changes on the inside are even more pronounced - as the facelifted Prado gains an all-new dashboard, along with a fresh instrument cluster, redesigned steering wheel, and an 8.0-inch infotainment system. The Land Cruiser sells in more than 190 countries all over the world, so it's the best Toyota in terms of availability.

New safety technology from Toyota's Safety Sense suite of driver assists is available, but is fitted to high-grade models as standard. It has also received an upgraded tire pressure monitoring system, rear cross traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring. That means a global line-up consisting of a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel, a 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol and a range topping 4.0-litre V8.

Despite sharing a name with the Land Cruiser sold here in the USA, the Prado is the mid-size member of the Land Cruiser lineup that is sold here as the Lexus GX. The 2.8L diesel is capable of producing 177 hp of power and 450Nm of peak torque, coupled with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
