While there are several apparent instances of Uber employees, including executives, acting irresponsibly, Tom Elvidge, general manager of Uber in London, refuted some of those specific allegations. The white cars indicate where Uber's are in the borough.

Transportation officials said last week they would not renew Uber's license to operate in London beyond September 30, over safety concerns with multiple facets of the company's operation.

Just days after the ride hailing firm was told their private hire license would not be renewed, CEO Khosrowshahi has issued an open letter to Londoners apologising for the company's mistakes and vowing to "make things right".

"We plan to appeal the decision in London and can continue operating while we await the outcome of our appeal". Khosrowshahi said in the letter that the company would still appeal the decision "with the knowledge that we must also change".

The Sunday Times said Uber's concessions were likely to involve passenger safety and benefits for its drivers, possible limits on working hours to improve road safety and holiday pay.

"Taxi law is set at a national level and current legislation does not prevent vehicles licensed in one area from operating in another".

Uber now has 21 days, until October 14, to formally appeal the decision.

"Uber operates in more than 600 cities around the world, including more than 40 towns and cities here in the United Kingdom", the company said.

In the last few years, Uber has tangled with regulators across Europe. Obviously I am pleased that he has acknowledged the issues that Uber faces in London. Since it opened for business in 2012, the company has thrived in London.

London mayor Sadiq Khan, who serves as the chair of Transport for London's board, said he was glad to hear of the Uber CEO's apologetic attitude, and stressed that he would do what he could to help the company make amends. "What TfL is against is companies not playing by the rules so customers, members of staff and others should be angry at Uber for not playing by the rules, rather than TfL who are doing their job by making sure companies are playing by the rules".

"In the short term, expect plenty of PR, but the prospects of the culture changing while Kalanick is still there are slim", he said.
