Three Rohingya are reported to have been killed by a mine, and at least two more have lost limbs.

The ISCG in Bangladesh said $77 million in funding was needed to deliver urgent aid to the new arrivals.

"We want to work with the governments of Myanmar and Bangladesh to prevent the humanitarian plight in the region", he told the opening session of an Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in the Kazakh capital Astana.

"Questions that are put to me suggest that many people have difficulty reconciling what appears to be happening to Muslims there with Myanmar's reputation as a Buddhist country", the Tibetan spiritual leader wrote in a letter to Suu Kyi shortly after the latest fighting broke out.

The UN human rights chief on Monday slammed Myanmar's apparent "systematic attack" on the Rohingya minority, warning that "ethnic cleansing" seemed to be underway.

U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration have refused to answer calls from global activists calling on him to impose sanctions against Suu Kyi's government.

Zeid said he was "further appalled" by reports that Myanmar authorities planting land mines along the border.

"I call on the government to end its current cruel military operation, with accountability for all violations that have occurred, and to reverse the pattern of severe and widespread discrimination against the Rohingya population", he added.

Rumors have spread on social media that Muslims, who make up represent about 4.3 percent of a population of 51.4 million, would stage attacks on September 11 to avenge violence against the Rohingya.

Communal tensions appeared to be rising across Myanmar on Monday after two weeks of violence in Rakhine state.

The apex court had earlier asked the ASG to take instruction from the Centre about its response to the petition challenging the decision on various grounds, including that it violated worldwide human right conventions.

Suu Kyi has repeatedly denied accusations of human rights abuses against the Rohingya, and in April denied to the BBC that ethnic cleansing was taking place.

On August 25, Rohingya militants killed 12 security officers in co-ordinated attacks on border posts, according to Myanmar's state media.

Myanmar on Sunday rebuffed a ceasefire declared by ARSA to enable the delivery of aid to thousands of displaced and hungry people in the north of Rakhine state, declaring simply that it did not negotiate with terrorists.

The United Nations is working to set up shelters and healthcare facilities - as well as provide clean water - for the more than 290,000 Rohingya refugees now in Bangladesh.

The United Nations says 294,000 bedraggled and exhausted Rohingya refugees have arrived in Bangladesh since the militants' attacks on Myanmar security forces in neighbouring Rakhine state on Aug.25 sparked a major military backlash.

There are regular clashes between the Rohingya and the country's security forces, as well as other ethnic groups in Rakhine, which are predominantly Buddhist.
