Cell phone video of the shooting was posted on Twitter, showing the officer firing five shots at the suspect, who stumbles, collapses against a wall of the convenience store, then crumples to the ground.

Police say the man was hospitalized and later died.

Two short clips posted on social media sites for the OC Hawk news service appeared to show the encounter outside of a 7-Eleven in Huntington Beach. "About 9:30 a.m., an officer made contact with a subject at a 7-Eleven", Huntington Beach Police spokesperson Angela Bennett tells the Weekly.

A Southern California police officer shot and killed a man Friday after a confrontation outside a convenience store that was videoed by a bystander. That clip does not show the shooting.

The officer picks up a radio and speaks into it, but it's not clear what he says. CBS2 could not immediately confirm if the man was shot with live rounds or non-lethal rubber bullets. Then an officer-involved shooting occurred and the male was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, police spokeswoman Officer Angie Bennett said.

Nearby Marina High School was placed on lockdown due to the incident.
