Wenger: Champions League Has Lost Some Attraction

Wenger's Arsenal, who finished fifth in the Premier League last season, missed out on Champions League qualification for the first time in 20 years and are playing in the less prestigious Europa League.

Gibbs was earmarked as the successor to Ashley Cole but Wenger concedes a succession of injury problems stalled those plans. He has a huge physical power.

Although the performances of Jack Wilshere, Rob Holding and Per Mertesacker may give Wenger something to think about for the Monday tie, especially as the UEFA Europa League await them on Thursday. Next up, the North Londoners will collide against West Brom at the Emirates. After the rest of the top six won on Saturday, the Gunners will need all three points in order to keep up with the pack.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has explained that the Champions League is starting to lose its appeal and that audience numbers are fading. In addition, Doncaster has also felt the Gunners force, as they were knocked out from the Carabao Cup with 1:0.

Gabriel Paulista was sold to Valencia, and Wenger came close to offloading Shkodran Mustafi to Inter Milan, only to retain the Germany global.

"What happened to Kieran Gibbs is he had been bothered a few times when he was in front of other players". There is no disguised attitude on my side. Danny Welbeck and Calum Chambers of Arsenal are after the global break. Paolo di Canio had the same image at West Ham.

The former Barcelona man is in the frame to start against West Brom this evening. This is not bad for a striker new to the Premier League and still adapting to the pace of the League. Avoiding a loss in this contest would truly be a statement that West Bromwich means business this season and that they will go for the European competition spots. Additionally, Tony Pulis is one of the best managers in the league whose teams are traditionally one of the best defensive units that are tough to crack.

His appearance will not prompt a rush on ticket sales for the game at the Emirates, but the more astute among the Arsenal supporters might watch the West Brom captain and think of what might have been.
