Yoda appears in Saudi Arabian textbook

Saudi artist Abdullah al Shehri says he paired the king and Yoda as they were both intelligent and because Yoda's green skin and light saber matched the green of the Saudi flag

Saudi artist Abdullah al Shehri says he paired the king and Yoda as they were both intelligent and because Yoda's green skin and light saber matched the green of the Saudi flag

Mr. Shehri had shown the work in galleries in Dubai, Houston and Aspen, Colo., he said, prompting conversations with people who did not know much about Saudi Arabia.

"The ministry has begun printing a corrected copy of the curriculum and withdrawing the previous copy and formed a legal committee to determine the source of the error and to take the proper measures".

He told the it was not yet clear how it had ended up in the textbook.

"Everyone loves King Faisal here, even the younger generations", he said. How this slipped past the person responsible for double-checking everything in the book isn't entirely clear―Yoda, notably, is not just an iconic character featured in one of the biggest sci-fi film franchises of all time.

He came across a photo of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, however, in which the president met Mickey Mouse in Disneyland.

The historic photo of the leader was accidentally printed in a United Nations lesson with a superimposed Jedi master Yoda sitting beside the king.

Images of started circulating online from a high school social studies text book in the country, where none other than Yoda appears to have been photoshopped next to King Faisal as he signed the 1945 United Nations Charter.

One Saudi schoolteacher jested that this error symbolised "payback" after the education ministry introduced an extra hour of classes in schools earlier this year.

Shehri said Faisal "was wise and was always strong in his speeches". "So I found that Yoda was the closest character to the king".

Although there's still no news on how the incorrect photograph was not picked up through the editing process, the artist who doctored the picture in the first place has now been identified. "And also Yoda and his light saber - it's all green".
