Arby's to release venison sandwiches nationwide, test elk sandwiches

In a news release, Taylor called the venison sandwich "a ideal example of the level of innovation coming from our teams and our commitment to creating experiences that guests can only get at Arby's".

Last year, Arby's made the sandwich available in only five states, at select locations.

The fast food chain announced Wednesday that it will be selling its popular venison sandwich at all 3,300 restaurants nationwide starting on October 21 after having released it in five states past year.

You'll be able to sample something other than roast beef at local Arby's restaurants this month: deer meat. There are more than 3,300 Arby's locations in the USA but it not known how many sandwiches each location will receive.

A spokesperson for the Atlanta-based company said they are going nationwide after last year's positive response to the limited release. The venison (that's deer meat, by the way) is marinated in garlic, salt, and pepper, then cooked for three hours until juicy.

Aside from the choice of meat, it's a pretty simple sandwich, with crispy onions and a juniper berry sauce on top of a thick-cut venison steak.

The venison sandwiched, tried in a limited release previous year, will be available in all 3,300 stores across the nation, while the elk will be available in three restaurants in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. This year's sandwiches are limited edition and will only be available until supplies run out. And if you have never tried venison, color me highly skeptical that a fast-food sandwich is the best way to introduce you to the meat. That special meal will also be available on the same day the chain releases the venison sandwich.
